Dr. Patricia Brennan, Director of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), gave a moving and energetic presentation on "NLM: A Platform for Biomedical Discovery and Data-Powered Health" (Strategic Plan, 2017 - 2027) Dr. Brennan spoke of the National Library of Medicine as the “instigation engine” for knowledge and research, and provided vivid examples of the role Data-Powered Health will play in the future of patient care.

Eugene Garfield, who passed away in 2017, was honored by chemists speaking at the American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting this past week.
Eugene Garfield is known as the creator of the impact factor. During his time at Welch Medical Library as a research assistant, he helped with the investigation in the potential of using computers for information services.
The Welch Medical Library has a two-year Scholarly Communication fellowship position available.
The Fellow will report to the Associate Director of Research Services at the Welch Medical Library and will work closely with the Coordinator of the Office of Scholarly Communication and the Johns Hopkins University Scholarly Communications Group as well as with Welch Library Informationists and staff on a variety of library activities and special projects.
Welch Medical Library is seeking a full-time Software Engineer, who would be responsible for the development and support of repository infrastructure for Johns Hopkins University and Medicine. The repository infrastructure will support important initiatives for Johns Hopkins, including research integrity, research reproducibility, research analytics, precision medicine, and medical archives initiatives.
