FDA Approval vs. Clearance

The smart folks at iMedicalApps remind us that FDA clearance of a product is not the same as FDA approval. In this article they note that a systematic review found temporal thermometer readings can vary between 98.6 and 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit. While the study found the “temporal thermometers are just as inaccurate as tympanic thermometers” they do not recommend using temporal thermometers “especially in the pediatric patient population when dosing of antipyretics is determined by a child’s temperature.”
